Poetry Corner

This week the girls in Room 16 learnt a new poem called The Marrog.  It is about an alien from Mars who visits Earth and spends a day in a classroom.  He is invisible so nobody knows he is there.   Maybe there’s a Marrog at the back of your classroom, who knows?!

Listen to their rendition of the poem by clicking on the link below.  Do you like their pictures of what they imagined the Marrog to look like?

Christmas Angels in Room 16

January 3rd, 2012

The girls in Room 16 had fun making these pretty Christmas Angels.  Follow their procedure if you would like to make your own!

How to Make a Christmas Angel

Equipment/Material:

  • Paper doilies (2 stuck together)
  • 3 glittery pipe-cleaners
  • Small foam ball
  • Shiny/glittery craft paper
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Marker

Steps:

  1. Stick one of the pipe-cleaners into the foam ball to make the angel’s head and body.
  2. Fold the craft paper back and forth to make a fan which will be used as the angel’s wings.
  3. Attach the wings to the body using a pipe-cleaner.  Twist the pipe cleaner so that it resembles two arms.
  4. Cut into the centre of the doilies and fold them into a cone shape.  Staple to secure.
  5. Push the cone onto the body of the angel.  This is her dress.
  6. Make a halo using the last pipe-cleaner.  Stick it into the angel’s head.
  7. Draw eyes and a mouth onto the angel’s face.

This little angel can be given as a gift to be hung on, or placed on top of, a Christmas tree.  If you get started now you could have lots ready to give as presents next year!

Thank You Ms. Kenny!

January 3rd, 2012

Ms. Kenny was teaching the girls from Room 16 during the month of November.  They had great fun learning about lots of interesting things.  Here is a photo of all of the girls with Ms. Kenny on her last day in St. Vincent’s.  We wish her the best of luck in her final year in college and know that she will make a great class teacher!

The Senses

November 24th, 2011

Room 9 have been learning all about the senses. We tasted different foods to see what taste they had. We discovered lemons are bitter, sour jellies are sour, jellies are sweet and crisps are salty. Our tongues have different taste buds to taste all the different flavours.
